There are over 200 lakes in Pope County which are 10 acres or larger in size. The Fisheries office of the Department of Natural Resources in Glenwood reports the following lakes offer good fishing to tourists.
Lake Minnewaska
13th largest lake in Minnesota.
Lake Minnewaska, with 7,110 acres, has 18.1 miles of shoreline and its maximum depth is 32 feet. Given it's vast surface, Minnewaska is well known for its water sports such as sailing, skiing, and other personal watercraft. It offers 2 public beaches, 1 in Glenwood on the east end of the lake and 1 in Starbuck on the western shore.
Minnewaska also offers a variety of fishing excitement year around with walleye, northern pike, bluegill, yellow perch, black crappie, largemouth bass and smallmouth bass.
Pelican Lake
Pelican Lake is north of Lake Minnewaska. Maximum depth of 34 feet. It is 519 acres and has 5.1 miles of shoreline. It is a good lake for pan fishing.
Lake Amelia
This lake is 932 acres with 7.33 miles of shoreline. It is the deepest lake in the county with a maximum depth of 71 feet. Amelia is located in northeastern Pope County near the town of Villard. Amelia is one of the cleanest lakes around. It also has a public beach available for swimming. The lake offers walleye, northern pike, blue gill, yellow perch, black crappie, and largemouth bass.
Lake Villard
To the north of Lake Amelia is Lake Villard. Villard has 536 acres with a maximum depth of 16 feet. It has 3.6 miles of shoreline. Fishermen hook walleye, northern pike, blue gills, black crappies, yellow perch and largemouth bass.
Lake Leven
Leven, just north of Lake Villard, has 283 acres of surface water. 2.68 miles of shoreline and has a maximum depth of 33 feet. This lake also offers good walleye, northern pike, blue gill, yellow perch, black crappie and bass fishing.
Grove Lake
Located in eastern Pope County, Grove Lake has 4.9 miles of shoreline, 379 acres of surface water and has a maximum depth of 31 feet. Tis lake is similar in species of fish with walleyes, northern pike, bluegills, yellow perch, black crappies and largemouth bass.
Scandinavian Lake
Also referred to as Scandi, this lake is located in southeastern Pope County. It is 424 acres in size. Maximum depth of 49 feet and has 3.9 miles of shoreline. This lake also offers a variety of fish including walleye, northern pike, blue gill, yellow perch, black crappies and largemouth bass.
Gilchrist Lake
Located in southeastern Pope County, north of Scandi. This lake has 4.9 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 24 feet. It covers 321 surface acres. It offers northern pike, walleye, blue gill, yellow perch, black crappie and bass.
Lake Linka
Lake Linka is one of the couty's smaller lakes but is known to be one of the clearest lakes in the county. It is only 197 acres but is 50 feet deep. It has 2.2 miles of shoreline. Linka also offers walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, blue gill, crappie and bass. Linka is located north of Gilchrist and Scandi in southeastern Pope County.
Lake Reno
Lake Reno is on the northern border of Pope County. It has 11.25 miles of shoreline and 3,722 surface acres. It's maximum depth is 23 feet. This lake offers walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, blue gills, black crappies and largemouth bass.
